| Mumism:
Common sentences and quotations used by mother's world-wide. "Mumisms" are
genetically built into all mothers and are passed on from generation to generation.
Sometimes found in other people's speech and includes repeated use of clichés that make
one's voice sound exactly like their mother's (see mother tongue). |
See if you recognise any of these:
- "Carry the cat/dog like THIS, not by its tail!"
- "I love you
(lots)"
- "Am I embarrassing you? Really? Am I?"
- "Ask your father (closely followed by "Ask your Mother")"
- "$20 for lunch? What are you having... Crayfish Mornay?"
- "Keep doing that with your face and it'll stay that way"
- "What is that awful racket!?"
- "Electrical sockets are not for babies..."
- "I'm going to give you until I count to three..."
- "Ohhh darling, they're not laughing AT you, they are laughing WITH you!"
