Mumism:
Common sentences and quotations used by mother's world-wide. "Mumisms" are
genetically built into all mothers and are passed on from generation to generation.
Sometimes found in other people's speech and includes repeated use of clichés that make
one's voice sound exactly like their mother's (see mother tongue). |
See if you recognise any of these:

- "Be good - and don't do ANYTHING to embarrass your parents."
- "Don't you roll your eyes at me!"
- "What is that awful racket!?"
- "Ask your father (closely followed by "Ask your Mother")"
- "Carry the cat/dog like THIS, not by its tail!"
- "You can look but DON'T TOUCH!"
- "No, you did not wash your hands. Nevermind how I know - just do it again... and with soap this time"
- "What's for dinner...? It's a surprise!"
- "There are millions of starving children in Africa who would work for a week for that potatoe"
